First time in Dallas and we wanted to pick a place close to where we were staying for a wedding.
The food is excellent. They have amazing “Mess” breakfast which means everything you want for breakfast (hash, meat, eggs) stacked on top of each other. I had the mushroom and spinach mess with over easy eggs and my boyfriend had the biscuit and gravy mess with scrambled both delicious. When they ask for toast, muffin or biscuit — the answer is biscuit, light, fluffy, and warm!
If I could really rate the coffee and the fact that you serve yourself, this place would get 4 stars. I do wish the coffee was a little better. I ended up grading 5 stars because the food more than made up for anything negative about the place.
Worth a visit for local breakfast!

First timer…very impressed! Every breakfast joint in North Texas has its own version of the “hash-brown-based-kitchen-sink-throw-together”…I’ve had all of them. The Whole Mess is the absolute best I’ve ever had! I ordered the sautéed mushrooms and spinach version…6 minutes later it was delivered to my table. Eggs were perfectly cooked over- medium. Just the right mix of onions, cheese, fresh mushrooms and spinach. My only complaint (and its very minor, and partly my fault) is that the hash browns were not actually “brown”…more like hash whites. Next time I’ll ask them to cook the hash browns “extra crisp” or “well-done” or whatever the correct terminology is for the doneness of shredded potatoes. Why is it so difficult to get these things done? It’s not just this place…it’s everyplace in the known universe…but I have learned that all you’ve gotta do is ask AND be willing to wait a few extra minutes. Sorry for the hash brown doneness rant. I’ll continue: I really love this place. The portion size was very generous. Ate breakfast a little after 10AM and this will serve as lunch for me today, as well. Clean, comfortable atmosphere. Typical diner “feel”. Good service. Friendly and very helpful staff. Restroom was spotless. (I always remove at least one star for a dirty restroom.) I don’t get to Cedar Hill very often, but if i ever do, I’ll definitely be back…hopefully I can try the lunch fare.

The Whole Mess was worth it. First class. Everything else we got was amazing. The French Toast #2 was too much. A little out of the way but keeps it quaint and not too busy when I was there. Great service, the wait staff is friendly and well trained. Go to the right when you get in, grab a menu and choose what sounds good. The coffee was great, too. Can’t wait to try their lunch menu.

Friendly service, good food and the cleanest facility in Cedar Hill… I especially enjoy the #1 on the breakfast menu, eggs, bacon or sausage, toast, hashbrowns. It is always fresh and hot. Nice touch to have free newspapers available, and CNN on TV.

I was looking for something new and Dick’s Cafe was the spot. Great service and good food. I like the menu variety and the seating area was peaceful. I had the patty melt with fries at it was good, cant wait to go back and try something new. Oh and they serve breakfast all day cant beat that. Just a quaint little place.

Very nice neighborhood cafe, just a down home feeling to it. The staff is so friendly. The very first time I went it was my birthday, I did not have my ID to prove it was my birthday, and she (the owner) let me eat free anyway. Upon leaving she gave me a big old hug and thanked me for coming. You just don’t see that kind of Christian fellowship much anymore, and it was so refreshing. I’ve only been to breakfast, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The waitress is very sweet also. I would recommend this as a wonderful family atmosphere, and great alternative to a Denny’s or IHOP.

My wife and I were looking for something new this past weekend and found this excellent location to have lunch at. Food was great and service was awesome. I think it was the owner that took our order. How great is that? If you’re looking to try a new spot for a quick bite that will satisfy, I would highly recommend! Try the bacon cheese fries, they’re unbelievable!

My husband and I have enjoyed eating at Dick’s Uptown Cafe…especially on Saturday mornings. The food is great and I especially like ordering the food up front and the quick service. The food is great. We are glad it is here!

We came here on a Groupon and LOVED it! We’ll definitely be back. I ordered the Reuben and it was perfect (as good as back home, up North and I never find that !). My boyfriend got “The Mess” which is their signature breakfast of hash browns, eggs, bacon, and cheese with a few onions and tomatoes. Also delicious!
